Vote NO on Issue 2
from the Stewart, Jaffy and Associates Co. flier, Oct 2, 1997
Senate Bill 45 is the most destructive attack on injured workers in Ohio history! It destroys the safety net that your family currently has when you are injured on the job. A NO vote on Issue 2 rejects Senate Bill 45.
S.B. 45 is the 4th law taking benefits from injured workers and their families since 1986. The $200,000,000 corporations will reap from the Bill will be followed by future legislation taking even more. Enough is enough.
S.B. 45 is devastating because it takes Workers' Compensation benefits away from injured workers. For instance:
- It cuts in half the time a claim remains open for payment of benefits.
- It reduces compensation for workers who suffer occupational diseases.
- It discriminates against women and other office workers or cashiers by virtually eliminating their ability to file a successful claim for carpal tunnel syndrome and other repetitive motion disorders - injuries common to women.
- It reduces wage loss compensation.
- It prohibits consideration of medical reports from treating doctors on awards for permanent partial impairment. Compensation is based only on the state doctor's report.
- It denies permanent total compensation to seriously injured workers who
are unable to return to gainful employment due to their injury by eliminating
consideration of disability factors (education, work experience, transferable skills) long deemed essential by Ohio Supreme Court decisions.
- It creates secret records. It prohibits access to these state safety documents by workers whose claims may be affected.
S.B. 45 is unfair to injured workers. The corporate interests pushing this legislation
promise to spend millions of dollars on their campaign to keep their $200 million
legislative giveaway.
Don't let them get away with it!
Protect yourself. Protect your family. Protect Ohio. Vote NO on Issue 2.
