There is an interesting political race going on in New Mexico right now. In order to replace Congressman Bill Richardson who was appointed to a federal position by President Clinton, New Mexicans are electing a replacement in a special election scheduled for May 13.
The New Mexican Green Party, known for its unusual ability to seat candidates and get votes, is running an exceptional candidate named Carol Miller who may actually have a chance at winning! She and the New Mexican Greens need a little help, so I am forwarding the following message from Santa Fe City Councilor and Green, Cris Moore, who some of you may remember from when he was here in Cleveland. I have sent a small check to her campaign committee and I am looking forward to hearing about the results. I will post a message to you when I hear anything more. I know she could use all of our help to win!

Carol Miller is running as the Green Party candidate in the special election to fill Bill Richardson's seat in Congress. We believe she actually has a chance to win!!
Carol has 20 years of connections in Northern New Mexico and strong support from many in the public health community. She has been endorsed by Picuris Pueblo, a Tesuque Tribal Council member, and the local head of the NAACP. She is being quietly supported by many Democratic Central Committee members and a number of small-town mayors. She also ran as a La Raza Unida candidate in 1982, and has considerable Hispanic support.
In this special election, turnout will be down around 20%. This effectively doubles or triples the numbers we usually get in this district --- and we usually get over 10%!
In addition, we have a very strong campaign organization, with over 200 volunteers in Santa Fe, Taos, Los Alamos, Las Vegas, Rio Rancho, and most other towns in the district as well.
WE HAVE ALREADY RAISED OVER $25,000 BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!
This is a *winnable campaign for U.S. Congress*, with a strong woman with 20 years experience fighting for universal health care. At the very least we will SET A RECORD for a Green showing in a Federal race.
WE NEED TO RAISE $20,000 MORE AT A MINIMUM to pay for radio ads (and cable TV ads, which are quite affordable) and printing.
