Stop toxicity testing on animals
from the Doris Day Action League, Mar 1, 1999 We are all aware that cosmetics and other chemical products have been tested on animals. Of course we look for products in the supermarket that state "No Animal Testing" and we are sickened by the photos of rabbits blinded, chimpanzees deformed and guinea pigs killed by pharmaceutical or beauty products testing. These procedures are barbaric and truly unnecessary! Scientists and researchers have proven beyond doubt that non-animal alternative tests can be more accurate than the cruel, outdated measures currently used to test substances such as lipsticks and floor cleaners -- without causing needless pain and agony for defenseless animals. The Doris Day Animal League (DDAL) has been in the forefront of efforts to outlaw animal toxicity testing and now, after years of hard work and the help of wonderful friends and supporters, VICTORY is at hand. Thanks to the efforts of DDAL, the United States Food and Drug Administration, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency have supported the formation of a committee to explore and validate alternative toxicity testing methods that do not involve animals. This committee, the Interagency Coordinating Committee for the Validation of Alternative Methods (ICCVAM) has come up with a ICCVAM Authorization Act that will bring an end to animal testing and replace them with more accurate and inexpensive alternatives. Your support is needed to put an end to animals suffering from toxicity testing once and for all! The committee is only temporary and action is needed now!
