Remember the Voices from America's Heartland

Action Opportunity - Raise attention about the situation in Iraq and that we don't support our government's actions

Thursday, February 18, 1999

Let's not let Madeline Albright, William Cohen, President Clinton or the nation forget the voices of America's heartland at the CNN Columbus townhall meeting last February 18th.

Jam their phone lines -- call and fax:

Madeline Albright - 202-647-5291
202-647-4712 (fax)
202-647-1533 (fax)

William Cohen - 703-697-5737

President Clinton - 202-456-1111
202-456-2461 (fax)

Remind them that the voices heard loud and clear in Columbus, Ohio at CNN townhall meeting last year were the voices of the American people. We do not want any more military force used against the Iraqi people and we want the sanctions lifted.

Some more ideas:

  • Hold your own townhall meeting about what citizens can do to get their message heard by the government and what is really happening in Iraq, invite Madeline Albright, your congressperson and other local notables
  • Do some guerrilla theater about the opinions of the people in the US and in Iraq or hold a sidewalk townhall meeting
  • Organize a tabling, leafleting or protest event about the sanctions and military force in Iraq
  • At your post office try to mail medicine to an Iraqi hospital, which is illegal because of the sanctions
  • Write op-ed pieces or letters to the editor of your local paper, call in a radio talk show, talk to your neighbors
Let the local media know whatever you do, the Columbus Townhall meeting last year got a lot of media coverage hopefully we can use that as momentum to get more -- the people are speaking and not being heard, there are a lot of us out here that don't support the bombing and sanctions and we are all acting together.

Let others know -- let's make this an anniversary to remember and remind
