NetAction seeks Virtual Donors

by Audrie Krause, May 28, 1998

Dear Friends,

In the few short weeks since NetAction launched its Virtual Activist web site, thousands of Internet users have visited the site to learn about online organizing and advocacy. Creating the site was truly a milestone for NetAction, but to ensure continuation of our Virtual Activist training, NetAction needs Virtual Donors. I'm writing to ask you to please make a contribution to NetAction today to support the Virtual Activist training and other NetAction projects.

NetAction was founded in July, 1996, to help activists learn how to use the Internet as a tool for organizing, outreach, and advocacy. In fact, we were among the first organizations to offer comprehensive training in cyber-activism. Since we got started, most of our work has been accomplished by volunteers. In addition to the training curriculum, we publish NetAction Notes, a bimonthly electronic newsletter that keeps subscribers informed of Internet organizing efforts and significant developments in technology policy.

Later this year, we hope to launch a new campaign to raise awareness of the importance of open source software development -- both as an alternative business model for the industry and because of its potential social value for ensuring affordable and accessible technology. But we won't be able to implement this new project without your support.

We also need support to keep our Virtual Activist training course up-to-date. As most Internet users know, technology is changing rapidly. Our online training course will only remain useful if we keep it up-to-date by adding information on new technology tools for activists. To do that, we need your support.

A significant portion of NetAction's support comes from membership dues and individual contributions, and we need your donation now in order to ensure that our work will continue through the year. I'm writing to you because you subscribe to NetAction Notes, so we know you have an interest in our work and you know how much we have accomplished with our limited resources. Please take a few moments right now to make a contribution so that we can continue our efforts.

You can make a credit card donation by visiting our secure Web site at: I'm asking you to make a donation now to ensure that we can continue offering our Virtual Activist training, as well as our other program activities. This includes our Consumer Choice Campaign to ensure vigorous enforcement of antitrust laws against Microsoft, and educating and mobilizing cyber-activists to ensure that the Internet remains an accessible and affordable forum for unfiltered communication.

Thank you for your support! And please share this letter with others who may be able to help.
