CELEBRATING AMERICA FORUM Celebrating America: Believer and Non-Believer Religious Folk Talk About the Varieties of Belief and Non-Belief within America today

7:30 PM, 1st Friday at 1st Church: Theme of Celebration of America on this 4th of July Weekend Holiday. Folks who appreciate the diversity of religious thought and secular expression within America will celebrate America together. All points of view will be represented. Grey Austin, Tom Bailieul, Bill Fullarton, Jane Larson, Ellen Rapkin and Bob Zoaner will speak to us. Bring something to eat you can share with others at 6:30 PM for the potluck meal and remain for the forum which will start at 7:30 PM. All are welcome. Free and open to all.

SUNDAY FORUM - Break the Silence: The Faith community Responds to Family Violence

1:30AM, led by Frieda Gilyard, Task Force Director, Columbus Coalition Against Family Violence. The forum is free and open to the broad Columbus community. Gilyard collaborates with Pastors, Rabbis, Imans, ministry leadership and lay-people within the faith community, and with secular groups, to help break the cycle of violence against women within our society. Many abused women seek help first from their faith institution, and/or secular groups to which they belong, because they see these as a safe places.

Cindy Sheehan Speaks at Central Ohioans for Peace

7:00- 9:00 PM. Cindy Sheehan began her anti-war activism after her oldest son, Casey, was killed in Iraq on 04/04/04. She rose to international prominence when she camped on the literal doorstep of George Bush’s Crawford Ranch in August 2005. In addition to being nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2005, she has received dozens of peace awards from all over the world and has published three books: Not One More Mother’s Child; Dear President Bush: and Peace Mom: A Mother’s Journey Through the Heartache to Activism. Cindy Recently published an Internet Booklet titled: Myth America: 10 Greatest Myths of the Robber Class and the Case for Revolution. Cindy is currently on tour with this book to spark the dialogue and activism we need to separate ourselves from oppressive Robber Class Systems. Special Event Movie "A Sense of Wonder: A Film about Rachel Carson."

7:30 PM. When pioneering environmentalist Rachel Carson published Silent Spring in 1962, the backlash from her critics thrust her into a political maelstrom. Using many of Carson's own words, Kaiulani Lee embodies this extraordinary woman in a documentary-style film which depicts Carson in the final year of her life. Struggling with cancer, Carson recounts with both humor and anger attacks by the chemical industry, the government and the press as she focuses her limited energy to get her message of the dangers of chemical pollution to Congress and the American people. The 55-minute film is an intimate and poignant reflection of Carson's life as she emerges as America's most successful advocate for the natural world. Sponsored by the Central Ohio Sierra Club, Simply Living and the Free Press, the movie is free and open to the public, donations accepted.
