Al-Nakba Week on OSU Campus

9:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Come join us and remember those who lost their families, homes, and lives in 1948 when Israel was created. We will have tents set up with pamphlets and books as well as music and food!! We are looking for people to volunteer at the tents from 9-5 every day during that week. If you would like to help us hand out information and educate others about al-nakba, please e-mail us back with the times you are free. Also on the 15th of May, we will be having a candle light vigil for those who are suffering in Palestine, as well as those who are refugees in neighboring countries. “PIANIST-COMPOSER TO PRESENT CONCERT FOR PEACE.”

7:00 PM. Brookings South Dakota composer-pianist Phyllis Cole-Dai will perform “Child of All Earth,” a multi-media concert for peace. Cole-Dai will perform her original solo piano compositions as photographic montages are being projected onto a large screen. "The music and montages reinforce each other,” Cole-Dai says, “deploring the violence of war and celebrating humanity's desire for peace." This concert for peace is being sponsored by the Columbus Coalition for the Homeless, in partnership with New Life. There will be a freewill offering taken at the door to support the work of the Coalition. .

Take Back the Night

Women and Allies Rising in Resistance will be holding its Take Back the Night event for 2008. Join us to give voice to the women in our community by speaking out against rape and sexual assault. This event is meant to protest violence against women and consists of information tabling from various groups, the clothesline project, a series of speakers and performances including the band Team Smile and Nod, and performer Lydia Loveless, followed by a survivor speak out and all women march. This event is open to the public and begins at 5 pm.

Memorial Day 5k Race at Whetstone Park to Benefit Community Resources Center

"This will be a race for everyone," Owens said, "and with the race taking a scenic route through Whetstone Park, it should be enjoyable for anyone looking to support the CRC.
