Becoming a thriving vegan advocate
by
I've been a thriving vegan advocate for nearing 13 years. I became vegan because I am an animal lover. I was born and raised to respect animals and had believed I was an animal lover my entire life; although regrettably, I did not become vegan until I was in my late 20's. A series of events awakened my consciousness; Moby's "Everything Is Wrong" CD included the first essay I had ever read on the concept of Animal Rights. I was also taking college courses; “Humans and the Environment” and “Human Nutrition.” However, the most shocking and compelling contribution to my awakening came as surprise solicitation call from Publisher’s Clearing House when caller enthused “You’ve WON!”

My last day with my first dog
by Eriyah Flynn
I’ve been meaning to share this for a very long time, and while it seems like I've continually let life get in the way, it probably has more to do with the reluctance of reliving this time in my life. But in holding onto this for so long, I feel it is causing many beloved companion animals to have their last moments on earth in a state of fear and anxiety, unnecessarily, when those final moments could be spent in safety and peace. So, in remembrance to my beloved Bear, who I lost this time 8 years ago, and in service to those presently nearing their last moments with their beloved companions, I’m finally sharing my story.

MLK embodied the immense power that spirituality brings to a social justice movement
by Jason Miller
Preface: While I recognize that there are many atheists in the Animal Rights Movement who adhere to veganism, and that people of many different religions and philosophies advocate and fight for nonhuman animals, my personal spirituality is the backbone of my veganism and my activism. I want to make it clear that I'm not questioning the commitment of vegans or activists who aren't spiritual and I also want to clarify that I am not a theologian. I merely want to use this essay as a vehicle to comment on the nature of my spirituality and to express the immensity of the strength it provides me.

Crushed by justice: What's next?
by Sabrina Hinkle (Founder, OVFA)
As the founder of an animal rights organization you would think that
nothing would surprise me, but last year a disgusting cruelty was brought
to my attention called “Crush Videos.” Crush videos are one of the sickest
atrocities to happen to animals and its all for human pleasure. The
description of these videos is sure to shock anyone with a drop of
humanity or even half of a heart. A woman is heard talking like a
dominatrix to a tiny kitten, puppy, hamster, rat, guinea pig, bird or even
a monkey and rather than whipping, chaining, burning, and hurting a man,
she burns the animals with cigarettes, near drowns them, lights them on
fire, drives nails through their tiny bodies and then places them on the
floor.
