Columbus, Ohio - The Strickland for Governor campaign announced today that the Ohio State Building and Construction Trades Council has endorsed Ohio gubernatorial candidate Congressman Ted Strickland to be Ohio's next governor.

"The Building Trades are proud to endorse Ted Strickland for governor," said Mike Thomas, president of the Ohio State Building and Construction Trades Council. "Ted has always been a friend of ours.  We are going to work hard to get Ted elected because Ohio's working men and women deserve a leader who will champion their cause."

"I am grateful and humbled to receive the endorsement of so many of Ohio's construction workers," Strickland said. "I believe that all working people across the state want the same things: an economy that provides living-wage jobs, an education system that sets the pace for the rest of the nation, and a government that is as good and as honest as they are. By working together, we can rebuild our stalled economy, revitalize our schools and return integrity and common-sense back to our state capitol."

The Ohio State Building and Construction Trades Council represents 15 crafts and counts more than 90,000 active construction workers in Ohio, plus 40,000 retirees, among its ranks.

More than 200,000 Ohio workers and retirees are represented by the unions that have thus far endorsed Strickland for Governor.

"Ted's dedication to working people is unmatched," said Gary Dwyer, secretary-treasurer of the Ohio State Building Trades Council. "Ted has the vision and passion for change that Ohio's working people need. And his plan to rebuild Ohio's economy will bring living-wage jobs back to our state for good."

Other labor organizations that have endorsed Strickland include the Ohio State Council of Machinists; Western Reserve Building and Construction Trades Council; Ohio Laborers' District Council; Tri-County Building Trades Council; Ohio's United Mine Workers; Cleveland Building and Construction Trades Council; United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers; International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT); United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 1099; and Laborers Local 310 in Cleveland.
