I'm Down With Dennis
by david swanson
Let me get this straight. The Senate will pass a public option if the House will. And the House will, because it already did. But House Speaker Nancy Pelosi won't allow it. So the mortal enemy of public-option backers is . . . Dennis Kucinich. READ THE ARTICLE

Alternative reading of the Al-Mabhouh murder
by Ramzy Baroud
The killing of Palestinian activist Mahmoud al-Mabhouh on January 19, 2010 was clearly a well-planned, violent and sadistic act, committed by Israeli assassins in the supposed safety of a sovereign country.

Support the Coalition to Ban Ohio Dog Auctions
As the month of March unfolds we find ourselves looking forward to the many changes of spring. We witness warmer weather and disappearing snow drifts, spring break and the break out of shorts and sandals. Unfortunately for many Ohioans, there is one change that we are not seeing. Dog auctions, a spectacle banned in many states, continue to take place. Dog auctions function to trade breeding stock between puppy millers and act as a means for millers to dump unprofitable pups and females. These auctions take place every month in Farmerstown Ohio, drawing shady breeders from across the nation. The next Ohio dog auction is set for March 27th and expects over 300 dogs to be bartered off.

In NYTimes: Voting-Machine Flaws and Paper Ballots
by Harvey Wasserman

As you say, “numerous studies have shown that electronic voting machines are particularly vulnerable to software glitches, intentional vote theft or sabotage.”

Power of Community Our Richest Resource - An Invisible Resource with Meg Wheatley
4:00 - 7:00 PM. What if creating the future you wished for was as simple as sitting down with your colleagues, neighbors or friends and starting a conversation? In times of disaster, economic hardship, turbulence and difficulty, there is no greater resource than that of community-people pulling together, supporting one another, creating solutions, rebuilding and reclaiming their place, their culture and their relationships. Community is the basic unit of human existence in all cultures, and it is the single most effective means to elicit people's positive behaviors-humans natural desire to live well together, in caring, generous and supportive relationships. Here in America, with our veneration of individualism and competition, we too often minimize the importance of community, even though it was the major contributor to our growth as a nation and most Americans still crave community. Now, with economic hard times, as well as a number of devastating natural disasters, there is renewed emphasis on community and neighbors helping neighbors. Now is the time to direct people's attention to creating strong communities in preparation for whatever storms are next on the horizon. Our Optimal Health invites you to join us for an evening with Meg Wheatley, who will share her insights on the Power of Community and also The Engaging Community Toolkit, which is directed to supporting communities to become skilled at using processes that engage all members of the community to work on behalf of their needs and dreams.
Meg Wheatley has a Master of Arts degree from New York University in systems thinking and a doctorate is from Harvard's program in Administration, Planning, and Social Policy, with a focus on organizational
behavior and change.
