For the past year, EcoCity Cleveland has been working with partners around Ohio to develop a campaign to change state policies that influence land use and development. The goal is to promote policies and incentives that make it easier to redevelop existing cities and towns -- and easier to conserve farmland and open space in the Ohio countryside.

This initiative is being called Greater Ohio, and it has now recieved funds to allow the hiring of a state project director. The project is seeking an experienced person who can lead a statewide campaign for policy reform. The job description and application instructions are attached.

DETAILS: Greater Ohio -- State Project Director

Newly organized nonprofit advocacy network seeks entrepreneurial leader to organize and direct a three-year statewide campaign focused on land use and growth management issues. Ideal candidate will have extensive experience in coalition building and public policy advocacy related to land use, development, and/or planning in Ohio. Preferred job location is Columbus area. Job Responsibilities

The State Project Director will have overall responsibility for managing Greater Ohio, a statewide campaign to change state policies affecting land use and development. The project director will be responsible for working closely with all Greater Ohio stakeholders to ensure that organizational objectives and funding goals are met. Specific responsibilities will include:

§ Statewide organizational strategy including the organizing of a statewide network composed of diverse constituencies
§ Policy development
§ Fundraising and budgeting
§ Public presentations and media relations
§ Regular communication with statewide committees
§ Hiring and supervision of regional staff
§ Supporting regional growth management initiatives with coordinated state level actions
§ Supervision of the development of educational materials, publications, Web site.

The Project Director will report to the Executive Committee of the Greater Ohio Steering Committee.

Qualifications

§ Strong organizational leadership ability
§ Understanding of and commitment to growth management issues
§ Excellent communications skills – writing, public speaking, interpersonal
§ Ability to analyze public policy and build coalitions
§ Ability to work well with a team and with diverse constituencies
§ Ability to travel to meetings throughout Ohio
§ Experience in land use, planning, and/or public policy advocacy.
§ Knowledge of Ohio and its politics.
§ Masters degree or higher preferred in public administration, urban planning, law, or related field.
§ Preferred location in central Ohio
